PyCon Trademark & Satellite Event Policy

Built by the Community, for the Community

PyCon DE brings together people who love Python, open source, and sharing knowledge.

PyCon DE 2027 is organised by the non-profit Python Software Verband e.V. (PySV) in association with the non-profit Pioneers Hub gGmbH, and made possible by the dedication of volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and attendees. Every year, this community invests time, energy, and resources to make PyCon DE a place where people can learn, connect, and collaborate.

We want that spirit to extend beyond the conference itself. At the same time, we have a responsibility to protect the name, identity, and reputation that our community has built together.

This policy explains how you can take part, organise related activities, and use the PyCon DE name responsibly.

Sharing PyCon DE

We love it when people talk about PyCon DE! Whether you are attending, speaking, volunteering, or sponsoring, we encourage you to share your involvement with the community.

You are welcome to:

  • Announce that you are attending PyCon DE.
  • Promote your accepted talk, workshop, or other session, including with the PyCon DE name and logo.
  • Promote an approved satellite event or initiative, including with the PyCon DE name and logo.
  • Share your conference experiences, photos, and insights.
  • Connect with other attendees and arrange informal gatherings.
  • Share your involvement as an official sponsor or community partner.
  • Write articles, publish videos, and discuss the conference online.

Please make sure your communication accurately represents your relationship with the conference. Sharing your participation is welcome. Presenting an independent activity as officially associated with PyCon DE requires our permission.

Community Events Around PyCon DE

Some of the best connections happen beyond the conference programme. We welcome community meetups, coding sprints, hackathons, workshops, and other activities that bring people together around Python and open source. If you are planning something that contributes to the community, we would love to hear about it.

Official Satellite Events

Official PyCon DE satellite events are activities that complement the conference and have been approved by our organising team. We look for events that:

  • Put community learning, collaboration, and open source first.
  • Are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible.
  • Follow our Code of Conduct.
  • Are transparent about their organisers and commercial partners.
  • Provide meaningful value to the Python community.
  • Have been approved before being promoted as affiliated with PyCon DE.

Approved satellite events may be included in our conference communications and programme.

Interested in organising one? Submit your idea through our Call for Satellite Events.

Independent Community Gatherings

You do not need our permission to meet friends, organise an independent Python meetup, or bring community members together. We simply ask that independent activities are clearly presented as independent and do not imply official PyCon DE endorsement or affiliation.

If you would like your activity to become an official part of the conference, please get in touch.

Using the PyCon DE Name and Identity

"PyCon" is a registered trademark of the Python Software Foundation (PSF) in the United States (U.S. Reg. No. 4,820,531) and in other jurisdictions. Its use for conferences is governed by the PSF PyCon Trademark Usage Policy.

The names "PyCon DE" and "PyCon DE 2027", along with our conference logo and visual identity, identify the conference organised by PySV. We ask everyone to respect these identifiers.

In particular, please obtain our written permission before:

  • Using PyCon DE branding to promote an event, product, or commercial activity.
  • Naming an event in a way that suggests it is officially associated with PyCon DE.
  • Describing an event as an official PyCon DE satellite event, side event, or partner event.
  • Using our logo or visual identity in third-party advertising or promotional campaigns.
  • Representing your organisation as an official PyCon DE partner or sponsor.

Factual references to the conference, such as mentioning that your team is attending or that your talk has been accepted, are welcome.

The distinction is simple: you can talk about PyCon DE, but you cannot present your activity as part of PyCon DE without our permission.

Fair Participation and Commercial Activities

PyCon DE depends on the contributions of its community. Ticket purchases, sponsorships, volunteer work, and organisational support fund the conference, its infrastructure, and initiatives such as financial aid and community programmes.

We welcome companies that want to take part and contribute. However, we do not permit organisations to use the PyCon DE name, identity, or implied endorsement to promote independent commercial activities. This includes presenting recruiting events, sales activities, product promotions, or customer gatherings as connected to PyCon DE when they are not.

Promoting unaffiliated events or commercial activities at the conference venue or through official conference channels is not permitted without our authorisation.

Organisations that benefit from an association with the conference should also contribute fairly to the community that makes it possible.

For companies and organisations, the best way to collaborate with PyCon DE is sponsoring. Sponsoring gives you reach into our community through our community channels and supports the conference that makes it all possible. To learn more and receive our sponsorship brochure, get in touch via our sponsoring page.

Protecting Our Community's Work

We take the protection of the PyCon DE identity seriously.

If we become aware of unauthorised or misleading use of our name, logo, or conference identity, we will generally contact the organisers responsible and ask them to correct it. Where necessary, we reserve the right to request the removal of misleading materials, involve the trademark owner, or pursue appropriate legal remedies. Deliberate misuse or repeated violations may also affect participation in future PyCon DE activities.

Our goal is not to discourage community activity. It is to protect the conference and make sure its name and reputation are used fairly and responsibly.

Have an Idea? Talk to Us!

We would much rather help you organise something valuable than resolve misunderstandings afterwards. Whether you are planning a meetup, considering a partnership, or simply unsure how to describe your involvement, we are happy to help.

PyCon DE thrives when the community grows together. Thank you for helping us keep it open, welcoming, and fair.
